Thinking line:
Intolerance is a kind of negative emotions developed in response to an adverse provocation, or any threat which may arise due to the perceived threat, distrust, secularism, religious fanaticism and social media etc.
Correct understanding is a disposition to appreciate or share the feelings and thoughts of others. Intolerance reduces such ability of correct understanding as these make an individual biased and irrational. When a man is intolerant to something, his conscience is no longer able to guide him in the right direction. It affects his level of understanding.

Intolerance and hatred in society thus increases conflict among people and groups. Hence, I agree with the statement. Intolerance is extremely harmful for a society since it encourages struggles, enmity, undemocratic opposition and arbitrary theories to damage the nation’s spirit and progress.
It is common to find people and leaders losing steadiness of mind when faced with stress. Thus, balanced decision making for social progress and development can only be made with an objective and unbiased mind, which can be achieved by being tolerant and open.
