The Government recently challenged India’s poor ranking in the Global Hunger Index 2021 and the methodology used calling it “devoid of ground reality and facts”.

• The Index ranked India at 101 positions of 116 countries. India is also among the 31 countries where hunger has been identified as serious.

Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs recently attended the Plenary Meeting of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at the Annual Meetings 2021 held in Washington D.C.

• The Committee discussed matters of common concern affecting the global economy and advised the IMF on the direction of its work.

The Karnataka government recently said a recent study has shown that the tremors recorded in the northern part of the state normally occur post-monsoon and are related to a phenomenon called hydro-seismicity.

• The National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), in their preliminary observations, indicated that the micro tremors of this nature normally occur during the post-monsoon period, after heavy rainfall, is related to a phenomenon called hydro-seismicity.
