INS Imphal to boost India's 'principle in Indo-Pacific region'

In a significant stride for India's maritime capabilities, INS Imphal, the third of the 'Project 15 Bravo Visakhapatnam class' guided missile destroyers, was commissioned into the Indian Navy on December 2023.

Boosting India's Maritime Power: He emphasized the vessel's role in securing national interests and contributing to India's position as a Net Security Provider in the Indian Ocean Region.

INS Imphal: A Testament to Self-Reliance and Indigenous Excellence:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed pride in India's self-reliance in defence, citing INS Imphal as a shining example. With 75% indigenous content, the vessel epitomizes India's commitment to Aatmanirbharta and showcases advancements in naval engineering.

Cutting-Edge Design and Construction: INS Imphal boasts advanced indigenous design and modular construction, measuring 163m in length, 17m in breadth, and a displacement of 7,400 tonnes. The vessel, propelled by four powerful Gas Turbines, is among the most technologically advanced guided missile destroyers globally.

Lethal Arsenal and Advanced Technologies: Armed with Surface-to-Surface Missiles, Surface-to-Air Missiles, Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) rocket launchers, Torpedo launchers, ASW helicopters, radars, sonar, and Electronic Warfare systems, INS Imphal is a formidable force. It successfully test-fired the extended-range BrahMos missile before commissioning.

Versatility under Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Warfare Conditions: Capable of fighting under diverse conditions, INS Imphal is equipped to handle Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical warfare situations, showcasing its versatility and preparedness for various combat scenarios.

The First Warship Named After a Northeastern City: Rajnath Singh emphasized the significance of INS Imphal being the first warship named after a city from the northeast. The vessel, named after Imphal, symbolizes the unity and diversity of India, representing regions from North to South and East to West.
