COVID Tests must be mandatory for vaccination: Survey

Around 48 per cent of the people surveyed by a team called LocalCircles said they want the government to make a Covid test mandatory for vaccination, as 80 per cent of the cases in India are likely to be asymptomatic. It could lead to further spread of the disease.

Chief of Genome sequencing group resigns

Senior virologist Shahid Jameel has resigned as the chief of the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), a scientific advisory group that coordinates the country’s genome sequencing work.

  • The INSACOG is a grouping of 10 National Laboratories that was established by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 2020. INSACOG is since then carrying out genomic sequencing and analysis of circulating COVID-19 viruses, and correlating epidemiological trends with genomic variants. Genomic variants of various viruses are a natural phenomenon and are found in almost all countries.

Gap between vaccine doses

Conversion of Nitrogen plants to produce Oxygen

Considering the requirement of medical oxygen amidst the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the Government of India explored the feasibility of conversion of existing nitrogen plants to produce oxygen. Various such potential industries, wherein existing nitrogen plants may be spared for production of oxygen were identified.

Covaxin trials for children

Bharat Biotech has received approval from India’s drugs regulator to conduct clinical trials on children for its coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccine, Covaxin, making it the first Covid-19 vaccine to be tested on kids in India.
