What is Aghaura- Agartala Rail link?

The rail line between Agartala in Tripura and Akhaura in Bangladesh would pave the way for the first train to run from the northeastern region to Bangladesh.
The railway link will connect Gangasagar in Bangladesh to Nischintapur in India and from Nischintapur to Agartala railway station.
After the Agartala-Akhaura rail route is opened, the travel time between Agartala and Kolkata via Dhaka is estimated to be reduced from 38 hours to roughly 10 hours.
The railway link is also expected to provide Tripura direct access to the Chittagong Port in Bangladesh, ushering in new possibilities of trade and commerce.
The entire project cost was borne by the Government of India.
- The Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) funded the stretch from Agartala railway station to Nischintapur .
- the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) funded the work from Nischintapur till Gangasagar, which is the last station of Bangladesh before the international border.
