FACTUAL DATA RELEVANT TO RNFS

1) About 70 percent of Indian population resides in country side.

2)  Between 2011-2015, non-farm jobs rose by 33 million while agricultural jobs fell by 25 million.

3)  Contribution of Agriculture to GDP is declining. Average size of landholding declined from 1.15 hectare to 1.08 hectare.

4)  It employs 64% population and serves only 39% of rural output.

5)  Transport storage and communication has registered increase in rural employment.

6)  Despite rise in urbanization, population projections indicate that India will continue to be pre-dominantly urban till 2050.
