Categories: Mains, Published: 24th Dec, 2022

Every aspirant who prepares for Civil services faces a lot of data in static and current affairs in almost all subjects. Students keep on marking or underlining these stats. As they finish the syllabus, they have a plethora of underlined data. But when it comes to authenticity and effective utilisation not everyone has a clue. If you are also facing the same issue then read on…

A step-by-step guide to Utilise the Data in UPSC Mains

Identifying the relevant facts: Identifying the relevant fact is an important step. You need to analyse every piece of data and check if it could make any option in the Prelims or if it could add value to any topic in UPSC Mains Syllabus.

  •  You need to make sure that you use only authentic data for a reliable source.

Searching/Creating Infographics: Infographics are a great way to present your answer in UPSC Mains. Presenting the data as it is in your answer, will help you present a confident and value-added answer.

  • Also, it helps you in memory retention.

Segregating them GS Paper-Wise:

At this step, one must segregate this data and infographics according to the GS Paper and map it with the micro detailing of the syllabus to prepare quick revision notes. From now, whenever you revise, just practice these infographics on a rough paper.

  • This will allow you to make a neat infographic in the Main Exam.

Practising Data Articulation With Answer Writing:

Practice daily answer writing practice and use these data and infographics to enhance the quality of your answer. This practice will lead you to refine your answer and Ensure your answers convey a deep understanding of the topic by incorporating innovations like this in your writing.

  • With constant practice, you will be able to draw these promptly. If you have data ready, you can attempt any question. You will not fall short of any content.

As part of UPSC CSE preparation, everyone encounters many numbers in static and current affairs. The problem, however, is they cannot recognize which data is useful for exams, or how to use it for our prelims exam, mains answers, or essays.

To address this issue GS SCORE has come up with the 'Data Story' initiative, where relevant data and numbers will be incorporated into well-designed infographics that cover static and current affairs topics. Prelims and Mains preparation can benefit from these key numbers. Not only will this broaden the scope of UPSC CSE preparation, but it will also add value to Mains answers and can give students a competitive edge.

When covered through the entire UPSC CSE preparation phase, a few numbers can make a huge difference. To ensure the success of the students, we hope that this initiative will prove worthwhile and enrich their knowledge.
