Is it ethical to use AI to clone voices for creative purposes?

Context:

Recently AI has been used widely on social media to create songs by cloning voices of famous personalities.

1. Recreating Voices of Deceased Singers:

   - Recent example and issue of Consent: A.R. Rahman's use of AI to recreate the voices of late singers Bamba Bakya and Shahul Hameed sparked debate. Permission and compensation were obtained from the families, preserving ethical considerations.

   - Emotional Resonance and IPs: The revival of deceased artists' voices evokes nostalgia but raises questions about the ethical use of AI in creative endeavors. Need for stringent measures to protect singers' voices from unauthorized use, akin to copyright laws.

- Long-Term OutlookResponsible Use of AI: The responsibility of individuals and industries to use AI ethically and responsibly.  The need to recognize music as more than just a commodity and to preserve its integrity amidst technological advancements.

2. Governance, IP and Creativity and:

   - Legal Framework and Rights : Calls for establishing regulations to govern the use of AI-generated voices in music production. Ensuring proper compensation and consent, particularly for deceased artists whose voices are replicated.

  - Role of AI in Music Production and Artistic Integrity : AI tools aid in mundane tasks like mixing and mastering, but creativity remains a human endeavor.  It emphasizes the irreplaceable human touch and emotional depth brought by human singers.

   - Balancing Innovation and Tradition: Acknowledges the potential of AI while preserving the authenticity and soul of musical expression.

3. Ethical Considerations Subjectivity of Ethics:

- Man –Machine dilemma: ethics are subjective and contextual; pointing out that AI's role is merely to replicate human talent. They likened it to any other tool such as atom bomb which has been put to bad use, suggesting that its ethical usage depends on human intent and action.

- Ethical Use and Compensation: They emphasized the importance of compensating the families of the deceased artists and obtaining proper permissions. SS also talked about how technology such as auto-tune helps people who cannot sing. AI saves a lot of time so that the creators can concentrate on creativity.

- Impact on Creativity and Humane-ness Temporary Disruption: AI could temporarily disrupt creativity but expressed confidence that its novelty would fade over time. Human creativity and emotion are irreplaceable in music, emphasizing that while AI can assist in technical aspects, it cannot replicate the depth of human expression.
