The attack on the last bastion — The judiciary

Context:

This article talks about the disturbing trend of a concerted attack on the collegium system. The collegium system may not provide the best mechanism to appoint judges but it cannot be discredited.

An ‘elected autocracy’

• Attempt to undermine Judiciary: Discrediting the judiciary, can result in making the executives the most powerful entity and it may not set the right trend.
• Elected autocracies: Investigation agencies are allegedly misused many times with action against anyone who protests against the government.
• Dormant institutions: On many occasions, the election commission, and information commission appear to be either compromised or non-functional.
