The skills required to pass examinations are quite different from those required to excel in coursework-based study. Proper revision of lessons on a daily basis helps you to memorize the topics, facts and everything that you have studied during Civil Services Exam preparation. Regular revision will help you to increase your confidence and will help you in reducing exams related anxiety. It allows students to study at their own pace without exhausting themselves. Revision skills are vital, but acquiring them often takes time and a bit of trial and error. To help you create a holistic revision strategy for UPSC Civil Services Exam preparation, we have listed down a few IAS Revision Tips:
Notes Making:
- Make revision notes in second reading. Don’t try to make quick notes in first reading.
- Make precise short notes of a comprehensive topic (like 10 pages to 1 page) so that you can quickly revise it.
- It is not necessary to always make revision notes on separate page. You can write on book margin. Just write keywords and connecting link between them so that by reading it you can get the whole idea easily.
For UPSC Prelims Exam:
- Make notes of topic in bullet points (5 bullet points).
- Read the topic keeping in mind that you are going to ask questions to other person. It would help to change your view like paper setter.
- Segregate each topic under broad subjects (like Economy, Polity, Environment, International Relations, Current issues etc.) and keep separate handbook of the same.
For UPSC Mains Exam:
- While reading any topic, write any important Fact/Quote on separate page and make its compilation. It would be helpful for you while answer writing for UPSC Mains Exam.
- Make notes of Yojana, Kurukshetra in 5-10 pages or refer any online websites for summary of the same. (Segregate topics according to subjects- Ethics, Internal security etc.)
- Make Quick revision notes theme wise like- Forest, Climate Change. It would be easy to add current related topics in appropriate theme.
- Make notes in flowchart, diagram form.
