Deterioration in mental health among the average Indian has been a matter of concern for psychologists and social scientists for long. However, it has been one of the least addressed issues in an age of massive technological advancement and tough competition in the job market.
The Covid pandemic has made matters worse, with joblessness and illness at a high. On December 2021, the Centre said in Rajya Sabha that 10.6 percent of adults in India face some kind of mental disorder.
Given the severity of the illness, Niti Aayog has over time recommended that the government include mental health treatment in primary healthcare arrangements.
